This is the second, less expensive restaurant to the Michelin-starred La Gazza Ladra, but described by Giorgio Locatelli as
doing elegant versions of street food as a starter – rice balls with saffron, mozzarella and rocket; panini filled with tuna; and penelle di ceci [chickpea fritters] – and main courses such as pork fillet in a chicory and pine-nut sauce, or amberjack in a tomato sauce with capers and oregano.
See Giorgio’s article in the Telegraph “Sicily’s Best Restaurants“.
You find it down a little side street – Vico Biscari – opposite its sister restaurant and smart hotel. From the main street in Modica it’s a steady 400 steps and a few slopes up the hill, but worth it! Good, local, inexpensive wine and simple local food that allows you to eat more than one course and still have room for un gelato. On the last trip to Modica we ate there 4 nights out of 6 – need we say more?
