When we asked for suggestions for our first safari, this place came top of the list. And for good reason. Singita have a number of very luxurious private game reserves in South Africa, but also in Tanzania and Zimbabwe. They’re designed to offer the very best safari experience, with a most astonishing range of wildlife, seen at very close quarters. Games drives are by Land Rover, both morning and evening, each lasting about 3 hours or so. You have a guide and a tracker, who spends his time sitting on a small seat on the front of the Land Rover, until he sees something scary, when he retreats inside the vehicle. We saw the most amazing animals, so close you could reach out and touch them.
We stayed at Boulder’s Lodge, Sabi Sand. Singita Boulders Lodge is set along the banks of the Sand River in Singita’s privately owned reserve within the Sabi Sand Reserve. It has 10 one-bedroom suites, and 2 family cottages. The suites are equipped with everything you could possibly want, set around your own private small swimming pool. Ours looked out on a private waterhole. Private except for the animals who came right up to the pool. You fly in by small private jet and everything is on hand – superb food and wine, pool, and your own personal staff. The last word in luxury, never before experienced [and likely never again…]!

Although stunning, the lodge has been refurbished – you can’t imagine how. This time around, designers Cécile & Boyd and architect Sally Tsiliyiannis of GAPP Architects & Urban Designers have taken further cues from nature, incorporating the colors, textures and elements of the surrounding landscape.
