The other River Café. Founded by Ruth Rogers and Ruth Gray, the restaurant has been the training ground of a whole generation of talented chefs – and celebrity chefs Jamie Oliver, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Tobie Puttock. Great, great italian cooking appropriately rewarded by a Michelin Star ..
The food is as simple and unpretentious as Italian should be, with great kicks of lemon, parmesan, tomato or chili. Sourcing is the key here, and the sheer quality of the ingredients shines through in every mouthful.
The building [and the restaurant] was designed by Richard Rogers, and the studio is next to the restaurant. So not bad for an office canteen. The menu is seasonal [of course] and changes twice a day. It’s been a long ambition, now fulfilled, to eat at the River Café, as much for the architectural and italian connection as the Michelin Star. Food as it should be and perfect staff.
