It’s a bit glib to say we stumbled upon this restaurant [aka New York Institution], but we didn’t book – though it was about ten years ago. It’s had a make-over since then, but none of the food has suffered and it’s been showered with accolades. The Americans seem to have 4 stars to bestow, rather than the 3 that Michelin have to put up with, but it deserves all of these. It’s actually got 2 Michelin Stars – something about only really serving fish, or some such…

Incidentally, the 2011 make over was by architects Bentel & Bentel – their site’s a bit slow and gloomy, but their design looks good.
