Scene of great family holidays so long ago, this was a sentimental revisit. A place where our two very young sons opted to eat at a pizza place a few doors down, whilst we chose something a bit more local – we could see them, and they had a fund to pay.
Sarlat is magical – street theatre, candles, market, shops, restaurants; it’s like a stage set but full of locals as well as tourists.
Foie Gras features highly in this part of the world and tins and tins of it, as well as the many unmentionable parts of ducks and geese salvaged in the process, appear at stalls in the huge market. Together with bread, wine, truffles, oils – just lovely stuff. No cheap battery stalls here like at home.
On a recommendation from the hotel [it’s car park is miles away – hard when your not using wheeled bags] it was a great find. Table on the terrace with views across the citadel’s rooftops.
